Biography & Historical Record
Lady Han (韩氏, Hàn thị) was a high-ranking noblewoman of Western Liang during the turbulent final decades of the Eastern Han Dynasty. She was the daughter of the venerable northwestern warlord Han Sui (韩遂, Hàn Toại — General Who Pacifies the West and longtime ruler of Jincheng) and the wife of the peerless warrior-general Yan Xing (阎行, Diêm Hành, also known as Yan Yanming, famed for nearly slaying Ma Chao in single combat).
As tensions escalated between Han Sui and Cao Cao, Han Sui sought to bind his most capable general Yan Xing to his cause by offering Lady Han in marriage. Yan Xing, who harbored deep respect for central imperial authority and was reluctant to join Han Sui’s impending rebellion against Cao Cao, was placed in a profound dilemma. However, upon being forced into the marriage, Lady Han supported her husband with dignified loyalty. When Han Sui and Ma Chao openly rebelled, Yan Xing ultimately broke away and submitted to Cao Cao, who warmly welcomed him as a meritorious general and bestowed upon Lady Han and her household imperial protections in the Wei capital.
