Yang Dao was a native of Nancheng, Taishan. He was the son of the famous incorruptible official Yang Xu. During the Wei dynasty, he served as the Administrator of Shangdang. He was known for his capable administration and was part of the influential Yang clan of Taishan. His marriage to a daughter of Cai Yong connected him to the prominent Cai and Wang (Wang Can) families of the era.
