Biography & Historical Record
Zhang Cheng (178–244), courtesy name Zhongsi, was a prominent official of the Eastern Wu state during the Three Kingdoms period. He was the eldest son of the renowned advisor Zhang Zhao. Known for his intelligence and integrity, Zhang Cheng served as a high-ranking official under Sun Quan. He was widely respected for his moral character and his ability to govern effectively. He served as the Governor of Ruixu and later held the position of General Who Assists the State (Fujun Jiangjun). He was known for his vast collection of books and for fostering talents, maintaining high standards in his administrative duties until his death in 244.

In Luo Guanzhong’s epic, Zhang Cheng is mentioned as a scholar and a loyal official of Wu, though he plays a relatively minor role compared to his father, Zhang Zhao. He is depicted as part of the Wu literati circle, upholding the dignity of the Sun family court.
