Biography & Historical Record
Guanqiu Zhi (毌丘芝, Quan Khâu Chi) was a noble officer and loyalist scion of Cao Wei. Originating from Wenxi County in Hedong Commandery, he was the son of Guanqiu Dian (毌丘甸), the famous Imperial Secretariat official, and grandson of Guanqiu Jian (毌丘俭), General Who Attacks the East and peerless hero of the Goguryeo campaigns.
Born into one of the most illustrious military dynasties of Cao Wei, Guanqiu Zhi was educated in horse archery, tactical formations, and classical history. In 255 AD, outraged by Sima Shi’s deposition of Emperor Cao Fang and the usurpation of imperial power, his father Guanqiu Dian urged Guanqiu Jian to raise the righteous banner of rebellion in Shouchun (the Second Rebellion of Huainan).
When the rebellion was crushed by the overwhelming forces of Sima Shi and Sima Wang, the Sima faction executed a merciless purge targeting three generations of the Guanqiu family. Guanqiu Zhi was captured during the aftermath of the collapse and met his death alongside his father, immortalized as a fallen martyr of the doomed Cao Wei loyalist resistance.
