Biography & Historical Record
Liu Huan (刘涣, Lưu Hoàn) was a respected imperial scion and magistrate of the late Eastern Han Dynasty. He served as the Magistrate of Chuxian (Chuxian Ling / 滁县令) in Huainan. He was a direct royal descendant of Emperor Guangwu of Han (founder of the Eastern Han dynasty) through the lineage of Prince Xiao of Fuling (Liu Yan).
Liu Huan was the father of the celebrated grand strategist and advisor Liu Ye (刘晔, Lưu Diệp — one of Cao Cao’s most brilliant master strategists, who served three generations of the Cao family). Liu Huan married Lady Xiu, a noblewoman of profound discernment. When Liu Huan passed away in Chuxian while Liu Ye was only seven years old, his legacy of imperial dignity, noble courage, and high Confucian learning served as the guiding beacon for his son’s extraordinary career.
