Biography & Historical Record
Dong Mi (董谧, Đổng Mật) was an imperial nobleman, classical scholar, and civil official of the Shu Han and Western Jin dynasties. He was the eldest son and primary heir of the venerable chancellor-confidant Dong Yun (董允, Đổng Doãn — celebrated as one of the legendary Four Chancellors of Shu Han alongside Zhuge Liang, Jiang Wan, and Fei Yi).
Following the death of his father Dong Yun in 246 AD, whose stern moral fortitude had successfully restrained the corrupt eunuch Huang Hao and kept the court of Emperor Liu Shan upright, Dong Mi inherited the hereditary marquisate as Marquis of Longhua (龙华亭侯). Reared under rigorous Confucian principles of modesty, probity, and civic duty, Dong Mi served in the imperial civil bureaucracy in Chengdu. Following the fall of Shu Han to Cao Wei in 263 AD, Dong Mi accompanied the former Shu nobility to Luoyang, where the Western Jin court recognized his distinguished scholarly pedigree and granted him official civil postings.
Role in Romance & Historical Chronicles
“Dong Yun was incorruptible, dignified, and the pillar of the imperial palace; his son Dong Mi inherited his marquisate and preserved his father’s spotless integrity throughout the dynastic transitions of Shu and Jin.”
— Records of the Three Kingdoms (Sanguozhi) & Huayang Guozhi
In historical records of Ba-Shu, Dong Mi exemplifies the virtuous sons of Shu’s founding statesmen who maintained personal modesty and administrative dignity without ever compromising their family honor.
