Biography and Martial Legacy
Ou Peng (歐鵬) is a memorable warrior featured prominently in the classical Chinese novel Water Margin. Originally hailing from Huangzhou, he began his adult life as a disciplined garrison soldier in the government armed forces. However, facing rigid military hierarchy and local injustice, he left the service and established a stronghold at Huangmen Mountain alongside his trusted companions Jiang Jing, Ma Lin, and Tao Zongwang. Known far and wide for his remarkable speed, towering stature, and mastery of the spear, he was universally recognized by the colorful moniker “Golden-Winged Hawk Brushing the Clouds.”
His life changed dramatically during the chaotic Northern Song Dynasty after encountering Song Jiang’s righteous company. Inspired by the prospect of bringing justice to a corrupt society, the leaders of Huangmen Mountain united their entire fortress with the gathering forces at Mount Liang. Among the famed 108 Liangshan heroes, Ou Peng claimed the 48th seat, holding a crucial appointment as one of the primary vanguard officers responsible for scout coordination and infantry assaults.
