Lu Junyi, famously nicknamed the “Jade Qilin,” is one of the most formidable figures in the classic Chinese literary masterpiece Water Margin. Originally a wealthy and highly respected squire from Daming Prefecture, he was celebrated across the realm for his exceptional martial prowess, unrivaled staff mastery, and dignified demeanor. Despite living in prosperity during the Northern Song Dynasty, his peaceful life was shattered by the strategic intrigues of Liangshan leaders Song Jiang and Wu Yong, who framed him to secure his allegiance.
Military Prowess and Tragic Fate
After being rescued from imperial execution, Lu Junyi rose to become the second-in-command of the 108 Liangshan heroes. Serving as the primary military vanguard, his tactical brilliance and supreme combat skills proved decisive during major expeditions against rebel factions and foreign invaders. However, his unyielding loyalty to the imperial court ultimately brought ruin. Following their pacification campaigns, corrupt court ministers viewed him as a threat and poisoned his wine, leading to his untimely drowning in the river.
