Biography & Historical Record
Mu Chun (穆春, Mục Xuân) is a fictional character from the classic Chinese novel Water Margin. He is a local ruffian from Jieyang, where he and his brother, Mu Hong (穆弘, Mục Hoằng), wielded significant influence. Known as the ‘Little Overlord’ (Xiao Ba Wang), he is characterized by his hot-headed nature and proficiency in martial arts. Unlike his brother, who acts with more authority, Mu Chun often serves as the enforcer in their local territory, frequently clashing with travelers and outlaws who pass through their domain.
Role in Romance of the Three Kingdoms
While Mu Chun is not a figure from the Three Kingdoms era, his archetype mirrors the regional warlord figures often found in the historical chronicles of the late Han Dynasty, serving as a powerful local agent who eventually pledges loyalty to a greater cause.
