Biography & Historical Record
Pan Zhu (潘翥, Phan Chử) was a high-ranking military commander, nobleman, and cavalry officer of the Eastern Wu Dynasty. He was the eldest son and primary heir of the famous general and Senior Minister of Works Pan Jun (潘濬, Phan Tuấn — Marquis of Liuyang, trusted commander of Sun Quan who subdued the massive Wuxi Man rebellions in Jingzhou).
Following the death of his father Pan Jun in 239 AD, Pan Zhu inherited the prestigious hereditary title of Marquis of Liuyang (刘阳侯) and was commissioned as a Cavalry Commandant (Jiduwei / 骑都尉). Pan Zhu commanded his family’s private retainers and frontline cavalry regiments in Jingzhou, maintaining ironclad vigilance along the strategic border facing Cao Wei. Respected by his troops for his brave personal leadership and strict military discipline, Pan Zhu served as a stalwart bulwark defending the northwestern approaches of the Wu empire throughout the mid-3rd century.
