Biography & Historical Record
Wang Lie (王烈, Vương Liệt), courtesy name Yanyuan (彦元), was the eldest son and designated heir of Wang Xiang (王祥, Vương Tường) and Lady Duan (段氏). Born into the revered Langya Wang lineage during the Cao Wei period, Wang Lie was celebrated from early youth for his extraordinary intellect, gentle temperament, and profound embodiment of filial devotion (孝悌).
Trained directly under his illustrious father, Wang Lie showed exceptional promise as a future pillar of the state. However, tragedy struck the Wang household when Wang Lie fell gravely ill and passed away at an early age before he could assume high office or succeed to his father’s noble rank. His untimely death caused immense grief to Wang Xiang, who composed moving memorial reflections praising his son’s unmatched filial character. The family lineage and hereditary succession subsequently passed to his younger brother, Wang Fen (王芬).
