Biography & Historical Record
Wei Lie (卫烈, Vệ Liệt) was a noble officer and court official of Cao Wei during the Three Kingdoms period. Hailing from Xiangyi County in Chenliu Commandery, he was the eldest son and heir of Wei Zhen (卫臻), the eminent Minister of Works (Sikong), Minister of Education (Situ), and Marquis of Wenxiang.
Belonging to the prestigious Chenliu Wei lineage, his grandfather was Wei Zi (卫兹), who had generously depleted his family fortune to finance Cao Cao‘s initial army in 189 AD and died heroically at the Battle of Xingyang. Inheriting the hereditary peerage of Marquis of Wenxiang (阌乡侯) upon the decease of Wei Zhen, Wei Lie served within the central ministries in Luoyang, upholding his family’s proud status as foundational benefactors of the Wei state.
