Biography & Historical Record
Xu Zhen (徐真, Từ Chân) was an influential gentry leader, naval officer, and close ally of the Sun family in Jiangdong during the late Eastern Han dynasty. Originating from Fuchun County in Wu Commandery, he was deeply intertwined with the founding house of Eastern Wu through marriage, having wed the younger sister of the Tiger of Jiangdong, Sun Jian.
Known for his chivalric spirit, generosity, and command of maritime navigation along the Zhejiang riverways, Xu Zhen provided early logistical and clan support during Sun Jian’s rise to power. His son was Xu Kun (徐琨), who became one of Sun Ce and Sun Quan‘s most trusted military commanders and Marquis of Guangde. Furthermore, Xu Zhen’s granddaughter became Sun Quan’s honored consort, Lady Xu (Empress Xu), placing Xu Zhen at the very center of Eastern Wu’s founding royal aristocracy.
