Xiahou Xuan was a prominent statesman, philosopher, and leading figure of the Xuanxue (Dark Learning) movement during the Three Kingdoms period. Renowned for his intelligence and handsome appearance, he rose quickly through the ranks of the Cao Wei government. He advocated for the ‘Rectification of Names’ and served as a critic of the growing influence of the Sima clan. Following the failure of the plot by Li Feng and Zhang Ji to restore power to the Emperor, Xiahou Xuan was implicated, arrested, and subsequently executed by Sima Shi.
