Biography & Historical Record
Yang Ren was a military officer serving under the warlord Zhang Lu in Hanzhong. According to the Records of the Three Kingdoms, he was considered one of Zhang Lu’s most capable generals. When Cao Cao launched his campaign against Hanzhong in 215 AD, Yang Ren, alongside Yang Ang, was tasked with defending the key strategic point of Yangping Pass. Following the fall of the pass and the defeat of Zhang Lu’s forces, Yang Ren was eventually captured. Upon his capture, Cao Cao attempted to recruit him, but Yang Ren defiantly refused to submit to the Wei regime. Impressed by his loyalty but bound by the necessities of war, Cao Cao ordered his execution.
