Biography and Career of Zhang Xian
Zhang Xian was a military officer who served under the regional warlord Zhang Xiu during the late Eastern Han Dynasty. Operating within the strategic territory of Wancheng (Nanyang Commandery), he played a frontline role in defense operations against northern aggressors. His military service occurred during a pivotal transition in the Three Kingdoms period, when regional warlords continuously contested central China.
During the intense military engagements of 197 AD, forces under Zhang Xiu clashed repeatedly with the rising warlord Cao Cao. Zhang Xian participated in tactical maneuvers coordinated by the renowned strategist Jia Xu to resist imperial incursions. Despite determined efforts to defend regional holdings, severe battlefield casualties and shifting military fortunes led to his capture and subsequent execution in 197 AD.
