Biography & Historical Record
Lu Zhishen, originally named Lu Da (鲁达, Lǔ Dá), was a major commander in the Liangshan Marsh (梁山泊, Lương Sơn Bạc) uprising during the Northern Song Dynasty (北宋, Bắc Tống). Initially a Major of the Jinglue Prefecture, he became a fugitive after killing the corrupt butcher Zheng Guanxi (郑关西, Trịnh Quan Tây) with only three blows to defend a bullied woman. Forced to flee, he took refuge at Wutai Mountain, where he was ordained as a monk, earning the name Lu Zhishen. He is famed for his immense physical strength, his unpredictable behavior, and his unwavering sense of justice and brotherhood.
Role in Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Lu Zhishen does not appear in the Romance of the Three Kingdoms as he is a character from the classic novel Water Margin (水浒传, Thủy Hử). However, his archetype as a warrior-monk is often compared to heroic figures in historical fiction who possess superhuman strength and deep loyalties.
