Cheng Ji — Biography & Historical Record
Cheng Ji (成济, Thành Tế) was a military officer of the Prince of Taizi’s guard under Sima Zhao (司马昭, Tư Mã Chiêu). When Emperor Cao Mao (曹髦, Tào Mao) launched an armed palace revolt in 260 AD, Cheng Ji asked Jia Chong (贾充, Giả Sung) how to act. Jia Chong urged him to protect Sima Zhao at all costs; Cheng Ji lunged forward and speared Emperor Cao Mao to death. Facing immense public outrage, Sima Zhao used Cheng Ji as a scapegoat, ordering him and his family executed across three generations.
