Biography & Historical Record
Gao Wang (died 189 AD) was a prominent eunuch official and a member of the influential Ten Attendants (Shi Changshi) during the late Eastern Han Dynasty. Serving under Emperor Ling of Han, Gao Wang and his powerful clique wielded absolute control over the imperial court, engaging in widespread corruption, selling government offices for heavy bribes, and persecuting honest Confucian scholars and loyal officials. Their tyrannical misrule crippled the imperial administration and deepened social unrest, paving the way for massive uprisings. Following the death of Emperor Ling in 189 AD, a bloody power struggle broke out between General-in-Chief He Jin and the eunuchs. Caught in the violent palace purge led by Yuan Shao and Cao Cao, Gao Wang perished along with his faction, bringing a dramatic and violent conclusion to the era of eunuch dominance.

In Chapter 4, after He Jin is assassinated at the palace gates, Yuan Shao and Wu Kuang lead elite troops to storm the palace and slaughter the corrupt eunuchs. Caught in the palace massacre, Gao Wang and his associates are killed, bringing an end to their tyrannical reign.
