Wu Tugu is a fictional character appearing in the 14th-century historical novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms. He is described as the King of the Wuge Kingdom (烏戈國) in the southern regions. He is physically imposing, standing twelve chi tall, and leads an army of elite warriors equipped with impenetrable rattan armor.
Role in Romance of the Three Kingdoms
Wu Tugu was summoned by Meng Huo to aid in the resistance against Zhuge Liang’s Southern Campaign. His warriors, protected by rattan armor that repelled blades and arrows and floated on water, initially proved invincible. However, Zhuge Liang ultimately lured Wu Tugu and his forces into the Pan She Valley, where he had prepared landmines and incendiary devices. The oil-soaked rattan armor caught fire easily, leading to the total annihilation of Wu Tugu and his army.

Chapter 90
- Wu Tugu (兀突骨, Ngột Đột Cốt): Wu Tugu is the king of Wuge and comes to Meng Huo’s aid during Zhuge Liang’s southern campaign. He commands about thirty thousand rattan-armored warriors. The armor is described as extremely resistant to ordinary weapons, allowing his troops to overwhelm Shu forces in repeated encounters. Wei Yan repeatedly retreats before them as part of Zhuge Liang’s larger deception.
