Biography of Sun Fu in Eastern Wu
Sun Fu was an influential military officer and clan member who served the warlords Sun Ce and Sun Quan during the turbulent late Han dynasty and early Three Kingdoms era. As the son of Sun Qiang (the elder brother of Sun Jian), he fought tenaciously during the southern conquest campaigns to secure control over the Jiangdong region.
Throughout his early career, he proved to be a capable commander, participating in military expeditions against regional warlords such as Liu Yao and Ze Rong. He also joined forces with Sun Ce to defeat the rebellious Shanyue leader Zu Lang at Danyang. His frontline bravery earned him prestigious appointments as Grand Administrator of Lujiang and Luling, as well as the noble title of Marquis of Fengli.
However, political friction surfaced after Sun Ce died and Sun Quan assumed leadership. Fearing the overwhelming northern dominance of Cao Cao around 204 AD, he secretly dispatched correspondence to negotiate a private alliance. Once his covert messenger was intercepted by Wu patrols, Sun Quan stripped his cousin of his titles and military command, confining him to house arrest for the remainder of his life.
